Two Tongues is a surreal portrait of a single female face — rendered twice, one upright, one inverted, joined together at their center in a composition that is equal parts yin and yang, equal parts harmony and confrontation. They are the same face. But one stands and one hangs, and together they form something that is neither fully one nor the other — a figure that exists between states, between up and down, between order and its opposite.
Between them, white space flows freely through the composition, and through that space runs a single thin organic line in blue — curving, unhurried, the only physical thread connecting the two. It is barely there. And yet without it, everything falls apart.
The faces are built from flowing shapes and bold color, both bright and deep, with the white background bleeding into their edges and softening the boundary between figure and space. From each face, a tongue extends — not in play, but in defiance. There is an edge to it, something that reads as a warning more than a joke. These faces have been looked at long enough. Now they look back.
David Peche built this piece around inversion and tension — the same thing, flipped, and suddenly made strange. Two Tongues is disorienting in the best possible way, a work that shifts the longer you look at it and never quite settles into comfort.
Printed in-house at our San Antonio, TX studio on premium 13" × 19" heavy cardstock with vibrant, full-color laser printing. Each print is individually wrapped in a sealed plastic envelope to keep it protected during shipping and storage, arriving in perfect condition and ready to display or frame.
